MATSUI WHISKIES are made by Matsui Shuzo at the Kurayoshi distillery. The distillery is in Tottori prefecture in the southern part of Honshu island, known for its sand dunes.
The distillery’s geographic location means that it can take advantage of pure ground water from Mount Daisen. To complement the ‘The Kurayoshi Pure Malt’ and ‘The Tottori Blended’ ranges, the distillery has just launched another range of three products : ‘The Matsui Single Malt’, paying tribute to Japanese culture and its ‘Ukiyo-e’ artform.
Each label in the range has been carefully thought out. Katsushika Hokusai, with his ‘Thirty-six Views of Mount Fuji’ print series, was selected to demonstrate the power of ‘The Matsui – The Peated’ Single Malt via his famous print ‘The Great Wave off Kanagawa’. His view of ‘Umezawa in Sagami Province’ was chosen to represent the freshness of ‘The Matsui – Mizunara cask’ Single Malt. Finally, the artist Kikukawa Eizan and one of his many portraits of women walking through a sakura meadow was selected to highlight the delicate ‘The Matsui – Sakura cask’ Single Malt.
